This is the best way to work with the atmega328p-pu chip directly, without needing a breadboard and a bunch of wires. In the Boards Manager in the Arduino IDE, download the MiniCore boards. This will allow you to select the atmega328 chip and various options for the chip, like clock speed and whether you intend to use the chip with an external crystal or just the internal oscillator. All speeds (1, 2, 4, 8,16 and 20mHz) are available and other chip options easily selectable. Download the latest sketch for using the "Arduino as ISP" by searching around, onto an Arduino Uno and plug it into the shield. By selecting whatever clock speed setup from the MiniCore board definitions, you can then burn he corresponding bootloader easily by just clipping your chip into the shield and selecting Burn Bootloader. Bricked chips can also be unbricked using this. Sketches can also be uploaded, by selecting Arduino Uno as the target board, and using "Arduino as ISP" as the programmer. Make sure you use Upload Using Programmer, rather than just Upload. It all takes only minutes to set up, and is a much simpler and quicker way than using wires to breadboards.
