Probably one of the best choices of flashlight you can currently make. There are more than enough reviews about this flashlight online, by people who have far more expertise on the topic than I do. But I also have the XHP50.2 version, which is probably the hardest choice to make when considering this flashlight. The throw of the SST-40 is noticeably higher. It's also more fun of a thrower, because it's fun to use the tight hotspot. The XHP you can probably call a "throw-flooder". It still goes really far, but lights up everything else too. The XHP can pretty comfortably be used as a walking light, due to the big spill. The SST-40 not so much. The hotspot is just too concentrated. If you want maximum throwing fun and maximum distance, take the SST-40. If you want to flood an area at quite some distance, take the XHP. If you plan on always taking a floody light with you, take the SST-40. If you only want to take a single light with you, take the XHP, it's an allrounder. But they are both great. Just take both :D
