peterbiekens You have to program the channel frequency into the selected channel number, either manually (deprecated as tricky) or using a pc and Chirp. Lots of channels are assigned for military, marine, ham radio, ISS and other uses and it is possible to find their frequencies and whether they are simplex (one frequency) or duplex (two frequencies). The handset can also be registered for use as a ship-to-shore telephone where it acts as an ordinary telephone.

peterbiekens it will get very hot. Assume 0.5V forward voltage drop, at 8A It will dissipate 4Watts...

peterbiekens It came with an adaptor for UK. The desoldering tool runs too cool to be useful.

peterbiekens you measure voltage across a known resistance. then given voltage and resistor value you apply Ohm's Law to work out the current.
