nielsmaneschijn Just plug it in, worst case it'll turn the wrong way and then you need to either invert the axis in software or swap a random pair of wires.

nielsmaneschijn Mine is 39.3 by 31.2 mm. 38.9 by 31.2 if you don't include the very slightly protruding USB connector. Max thickness is about 4.2 mm.
