Strong magnet if you try and pull it off, but slides very easily. Tried hanging a kitchen towel on the side of the steel fridge but that was too much weight. Instead it holds up a much lighter apron. Not sure if a bigger magnet is stronger in this regard but this size doesn't hold much weight in a horizontal position
