This is a FIRST IMPRESSIONS review so take it with a grain of salt and consider that it may change (for good or bad) after I gain more experience with it. Suffice to say, it is my opinion that although it is not the most sophisticated piece of electronics around this is a great value for someone looking to get into portable HF minus the financial barrier presented by Big Three (Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom) offerings. On the "plus" side it's reasonable sensitive and has useable filters on C.W., easy to tune around and change modes even with the SDR menu system. The built-in C.W. decoder is useful. It might get me back into C.W. since I can remember how to send but get flustered on copying. The case is made of metal so good shielding there. And decent heft, presumably partly to do with the decent size lithium rechargeable battery inside. Don't lose the included "travel adapter" as they claim it is the only adapter you should use to charge the lithium battery, even though it looks like the same cheap wall wart China sends with all its 12v powered electronics. Just the same, better safe than sorry. Pair this with an ATU-100 ATU and you have a decent little portable QRP for less than half the price of the Xiegu offering. I'll update this review after I get some real world experience in.

JohnTIZ I have a ticket opened for defective transmit. Getting the runaround. I have been licenced for 31 years and they tried to tell me warbly C.W. tone is \"normal\". They also told me to \"charge it and try again\" (which is one of the things I did do in case weak battery was contributing). Getting frustrated.

JohnTIZ UPDATE: Tried to make an actual contact for the first time today and discovered my audio is horrible/unreadable. I didn\'t believe it so I backmonitored myself on another radio to confirm. So this is another Bangood purchase that seemed like a good deal at first but turned out to be defective. By the time I added the ATU I could have saved up a bit more and got a Xiegu. Will see how much of a hassle/expense it is to return...

Another good value. Far lower cost than offerings from the usual suspects in the north american market, but appears to do that same thing - and just as well. Right now I have this ATU hooked up to an improperly and hastily erected EFHW for 40 metres. A bit of a challenging load to match up every time. But it is usually able to bring the SWR within a safe range, and often down to 1:1.15 or so. Only disappointment is no built-in battery (supposedly some of these do have one). So for a QRP portable station it will require a separate power source.

JohnTIZ Because input draw is different than wattage expressed as audio power.

JohnTIZ Not entirely your fault. The sizes stated for these carry cases is deceptive. They are rarely clear that it is for outside dimensions until someone asks in the questions.

I am really bummed I thought this is bigger, but I do understand by not looking at it clearly it’s my fault but these are way small then I wanted, my hand is there for size comparison.

Q: How do you switch the tuner so it selects the wire (binding posts) antenna? Or is this achieved automatically, assuming there is nothing already connected to the SO-239 jack?

JohnTIZ Deffwould avoid use of a telescopic whip for that reason. Would only use to connect a feedline. And even then, careful when snugging up the SMA connector. One snapped right off the pcboard (on a NanoVNA).

Another success for Banggood Express delivery. Only 7 days from date of order to date of delivery. Not yet had time to fully check the radio out but one thing I have observed is a problem with the rotary encoders which are unreliable.bI also fear that the telescopic antenna will put a considerable strain on the small SMA connector.... great care is needed.
